

Socks of this quality simply don't exist anymore for the same reason - Not Made in America. They wore like iron and had a wonderful feel to them. I used to buy some totally wonderful ankle socks from Lands End. Besides that, there are no more big textile mills in America, and quality everywhere has gone downhill since, I think it might be impossible to find this quality anymore. No matter how many you cram into an inch, they are not going to be durable. To get high thread counts, you have to use very slender threads.thr higher the thread count, the skinnier the thread. Now we are bring victimized by high thread count nonsense.


That's because they used heavier cotton threads. I still have a sheet from the 50s, a cotton percale. i am not sure it is possible to find sheets like grandmother used to buy. This makes them smooth, but drastically impairs durability. Instead of being woven over and under every other thread, they are woven under every 4-5 threads. Sateen sheets are lower quality than Percale.
